Chain Drug Review, April 20, 2009
MIAMI – Grove Medical LLC, which focuses on technologically advanced design, has launched its first product: Sensis Condoms with Quikstrips (commonly misspelled as Quick Strips or QuickStrips).
“The product was developed to resolve the many application errors that occur with the use of conventional condoms,” says Arthur Miller, chief executive officer of Grove Medical.
Developed by Robert Thompson, the company’s chief technology officer, Sensis offers the first patented “tactile orientation” condoms. What differentiates them are their patented Quikstrips, which are rolled into each side of the condom.
The Quikstrips are made of thin, high-density and medical-grade polyurethane strips. Two exposed tabs have a raised, textured grip that users can see and feel, so there’s no confusion about which way the condom should be applied, Miller says.
Studies conducted by the Kinsey Institute show that one-third to one-half of consumers wrongly apply condoms and, in doing so, increase the risk of sexually transmitted diseases.
In addition, because users apply the Sensis Condom holding the ridged ends rather than rolling the condom down with their hands, more lubricant stays on the condom.
“The Quikstrips make application fast and easy compared with other condoms,” Miller points out. “They are easily applied in low-light or no-light situations.
“The easy application of the Sensis condom will encourage the use of condoms, resulting in a safe sexual experience.”
Sensis Condoms with Quikstrips were introduced in the first quarter of 2009.
They are offered in micro-dot ribbed and thin varieties, and carry a suggested retail price range of $5.49 for a three-pack to $13.99 for a 12-pack.
